Cheap way to hang your lax sticks up

I wanted to share a quick idea I came up with for getting all of the those lax sticks off of the floor in your kids rooms.  It is very simple and very cheap.  The handle on your kid's sticks is about the size of a broom handle.  Which makes it perfectly shaped and sized for a boom handle hanger!!!!

In the picture below I took a standard broom handle hanger that you can purchase at a large orange or blue box store and secured it with 1/2" small wood screws to a piece of 1" wood (I used a piece of yellow pine shelf board) cut to 4"x4" to give it some stability.  Then I drilled a hole through the wood blocks, marked the wall with a pencil and then used regular dry wall mollies to attach the wood blocks to the wall.  Instant wall hangers for those lax stick!

Don't forget about Wednesday nights at Pine Ridge Middle School, 6-8.  Sign up on the CCLA website.

Hope this helps!!!!!

Summer Open Field for Lax

I hope all the kids had a great time the lax season and are now ready for some more.  I have made arraignments with CCLA to host an open field at Pine Ridge Middle on Wednesdays from 6-8.  The intent is to keep a stick in the kids hands (boys and girls) so those finely honed stick skills don't go away.  As it stands right now we will have 4 goals at Pine Ridge.  We will split the kids up according to who shows up.  We will do skills and drills, scrimmage or whatever...most importantly we will be LAX'n in some form or fashion.

Here are the rules and commitments needed from parents....
  1. All kids have to have an active US Lacrosse membership.  This will protect everyone with insurance.
  2. Everyone is going to be required to register through the CCLA website and the cost will be $20 for the entire summer.  The $20 is to cover the cost of balls, nets, cones, goals and any pennies I loan out for scrimmages.
The first open field is this Wed May 23rd.  I will be lenient on the registration for the first one. If you are not by the second one I will not let your child participate.  This is to protect me, your child and you. The plan is to do this every week on Wed from 6-8 from now until Day Light Savings Time ends.  That's the plan anyway.  Please understand the plan may change, but I will do my best to make sure someone is there to supevise the fields every week.

This is not limited to just boys.  I can't guarantee that there will be a girls coach at the field, but catching, throwing and shooting skills are universal.  Come one, come all.

CCLA - Last game of the season this Saturday

Hello Lax Nation,

Just wanted to remind everyone that the last game of the season is this Saturday at Three Oaks Park in Estero.  White Braves play at 10 and the Gold Braves play at 11:30.

This season was a blast!  Joe and myself enjoyed seeing the kids start out like lambs and end like lions.  It is always scary in the beginning of the year, but miraculous at the end when you actually see them get it.  Joe and I tried to instill how to play the game correctly over doing whatever it takes to win.  We could of sat the new players or the ones that didn't make a practice more, but we both agreed at the beginning of the year that teaching the kids correctly and having fun is way more important than then end of the year stats.  I hope you did too.  We did our best to get everyone on the field and let the chips fall where they may.

I want to give a huge thank you to the White Braves parents on how awesome your kids have been with just getting out there and playing while as a team we struggled all year.  We may not of won a game, but those kids were the greatest inspiration for me every week.  They personified how to "honor the game" with their never say die attitude and each one is an all star to me...love those kids.  We are small in stature, but huge in heart.

I spoke to Joe and we are going to try and do an open field type deal on Wednesday's over the summer at Pine Ridge Middle from 6-8ish.  Come if you want to, or not...it's all good.  If we have enough, we will scrimmage and have fun.  If not enough to scrimmage, we'll do drills and shooting...but still have fun.  It's all about keeping a stick in the kid's hands because 2 hours a week of practice is not going to make a great lacrosse player.  I spoke to the kids on Wed about being an "I get to" lacrosse player, as compared to a "I have to" lacrosse player.  If they feel like they "have to" , it's over.  But if they are an "I get to" lacrosse player, that personal drive that they are privileged enough to "get to play" lacrosse can motivate them to great things.  I'll keep everyone posted when we are going to start the Wed lax thing.

Since our two teams are playing at different times, doing an end of season celebration for everyone is a bit hard for this Sat.  If there is enough interest, we might be able to all get together next week for an end of year celebration.  Let me know if you are interested.

Lastly,  next week on Thursday is the High School Senior Lacrosse Game at Golden Gate High School.  There is going to be vendor tents (I'll have a vendor tent with my STX gear and stringing stuff) , a radar gun to check shot speed and a dunk tank.  Me and coach Joe will be a couple of the dunk-ee's so bring your kids out and they can try to get some revenge on us. The Girls Sr game starts at 4 and the boys starts at 7.  There will be food and lots to do.  Hope to see everyone there.
